About Lawrence & Co Psychology

Good therapy starts with feeling understood. Here's what that means to us.

Our Story

Lawrence & Co Psychology was founded in 2025 by Dr Patrick Lawrence and Madeleine Lawrence - a blood cancer doctor and a counsellor - who have each seen how often mental health falls through the cracks of good care.

As a haematologist, Patrick works with patients navigating some of the most difficult diagnoses a person can receive. What he sees, repeatedly, is that the psychological toll of serious illness - the anxiety, the depression, the grief - goes largely untreated alongside the medical care. Not because no one cares, but because the system isn't built to address both at once.

Madeleine had arrived at a similar conclusion from a different direction. Having founded The Gut-Brain Clinic (Brisbane's dedicated gut-brain health clinic) she had seen how profoundly the mind and body influence each other, and the profound impact on the individual when psychological care was taken seriously as part of a person's overall health.

Lawrence & Co grew naturally from that shared belief. A psychology clinic built by people who understand health, and that mental health is a vital part of it.

Today the clinic is led by a team of experienced psychologists who share that same conviction: that good care means treating the whole person, not just the presenting problem.

Our Philosophy

Good therapy isn't something that happens to you: it happens with you. We believe the most important part of therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. Before the techniques, the treatment plan or anything else, a person needs to feel genuinely understood by the person sitting across from them. That's where real change begins.

We meet people where they are. Everyone who comes through our door is at a different point in their life. We don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Our team draws on a wide range of therapeutic approaches, because people need different things at different times in their lives. Our job is to help them find their own way through - and to equip them with the tools to keep going long after therapy ends.

You are in charge of your own change. We believe that autonomy matters in therapy. From the very first session, we work collaboratively with you to understand what you're looking for, what needs to shift, and what progress looks like for you specifically. The direction is yours. We're here to help you move in it.

People are more resilient than they think. We believe that the capacity for change is already within us. We know how heavy life can feel, but with the right support, we are capable of more than we realise. Helping people find that resilience, and build on it, is at the heart of what we do.

Health Psychology Focus

Our team has substantial experience with the intersection of physical and mental health, providing expert support for individuals navigating chronic illness, medical conditions, and health-related psychological challenges.

Health psychology recognises that physical health and mental wellbeing are deeply interconnected. Our health psychologists understand medical contexts, work collaboratively with healthcare teams, and provide evidence-based interventions specifically designed for people living with health conditions.

Whether you're adjusting to a new diagnosis, managing ongoing treatment, coping with chronic pain, or supporting a loved one through illness, our health psychologists offer specialised expertise that general psychology may not address.

Our Team

Lawrence & Co brings together a small, carefully selected team of experienced psychologists, each with their own areas of focus, therapeutic style and professional background.

We think that diversity of experience is a strength. Whether you're navigating chronic illness, processing trauma, managing burnout, or working through something you're still trying to name, there's a psychologist on our team who is well placed to support you.

The Clinic Space

Lawrence & Co Psychology is based in Coorparoo, on Brisbane's southside - a modern, purpose-built psychology clinic designed with one thing in mind: making sure you feel comfortable from the moment you arrive.

Our new clinic (opening in June 2026) is at Level 1, 100 Holdsworth Street, Coorparoo. The building has on-site parking, lift access, and easy access to public transport.

The consultation rooms are soundproofed and fitted with dimmable lighting and warm, considered interiors. We know that the physical environment matters when you're doing difficult work, so we've tried to build a space that feels calm, private and genuinely welcoming.

Not able to come in person? All of our psychologists offer telehealth appointments via secure video, available to patients across Australia.
